Fun Friday with Pam

Happy St. Patrick's Day

More Island Escape!
I am at 10 pages on this kit, and still have more to work with. Seriously terrific value in Selena's kits!
These poor little peacock's at the resort were the saddest I have ever seen.
They had very few of their signature feathers left. I am not sure if that was done on purpose, to stop the tourists molesting them, or if they were clipped, or if they were sick. It did seem too evenly done to be an accident.
NOTE: The photos of the peacocks had very busy backgrounds. So, I decided to fussy cut them to highlight the birds better.
I decided to beef up the sand image in on the paper with:
Use a dauber to swipe large areas, alternate with TH Distress sandy powders and a heat gun.
For this layout, I 'PPG' the inside of the emboss basket weave. It can be difficult to scrapbook busy, colorful flower photo's. I cut mine into 3 x 3 inch squares to form one solid 6 x 6 display. Then re-matted the one I wanted to highlight. 'The Hibiscus' of course!

Tips for this one:
I used the word strip to form the journaling. First thing I did was secure it to a thin piece of double sided tape. That way, it is fast to cut and glue to the journal card. The jangles along the lower edge is beaded ribbon from the stash. with Washi tape over the ribbon.
Close-up of the journal grouping and finishing details.

Flamingos
This layout was done with two sheets, a lot of cut, flip, flop, and paste.
Cuba has a large flamingo sanctuary inland of the coast of 'Cao Coco' island chains. It is a HUGE no-no to kill a pinky!

More Kit Blitz !

-The die cut leaf from this kit was just begging me to turn it over and use is as a stencil background on some of the paper.
-After I got done playing with the inks, I decided I wanted it to look more like a leaf I had just picked up of the rainforest floor.
I got out the Mod Podge
-Do one complete coat and let it soak in . This will happen quickly and you might want to lightly dry the back to stop the leaf from being too saturated.
-Then put another coat of Modge on and dry it to a tacky point with your heat gun.
- Gently start to shape it by moulding it over a curved surface. Place your solid object {I used the rounded side of my glue container}
- I started with the center crease folding it towards the center from the front side. Then did the individual leaves from the back, curving and drying as I went.

For the Title, I chose to go with a stencil
- Outlined it with a pencil. NOTE: it helps to have a line to work off of. You can do this with removable tape, or a light pencil line.
- I used India Ink in Black marker to fill in. This makes a nice solid background.
- Last fill in with stickles to add the glitter. Remember with stickles, you have to work so you do not smear your stickles, and allow to dry for probably and hour. So, do it last!

This is how they rocked the leaf on Kaisercraft Blog!

Because we all see a leaf differently!

Island Escape Kit Blitz

A sunrise photo shoot. While on vacation, I am always up early. Just too excited to sleep. We were promised an ocean view....turns out it was just a Lagoon. But, so pretty first thing in the morning.
-I started with one of the plain background sheets. Got out this stencil. I think you can get a similar patterned one in several sizes and varieties.
- Then I gave it a semi translucent coat of gesso. Leave the stencil on
- I used a yellow spray "glimmer mist chalk" but really any bright yellow would do.
- Then quickly removed and wash stencil.
NOTE: if you have a clean sheet of paper, you can reverse the stencil while it is still loaded with gesso and spray to start a background for another project.
I tend to take too many photos, so used some of the ones that looked like repeats for the title work.
-The trusty Cricut is my go to for custom cuts and shapes. the Xyron sticker maker is an indispensable tool as well.
NOTE: If you are cutting photos make sure and set your pressure to probably a 4 to get a crisp clean cut. Also, see how they were positioned to cut along the same line in the photo. This is also an interesting left over stencil...hmmm thinking...thinking...

Check back Sunday to see more Kit Blitz with 'Island Breeze'

In the mean time, thanks to Pinterest...keep I dreaming of that beach

Island Escape Kit Blitz !

The March Kit is HERE!
There is also coordinating Ink and Stickle's not shown in this photo
It is just a gorgeous set of Island inspired papers and embellishment's to work with. You can buy one in store, or online HERE
I only had a small amount of time to work with this kit when I first had it in hand. I couldn't find the photos {in my carefully catalogued and stored....files}  Undaunted I thought, 'Well I can do a LO or two and put the photos in when they surface!' There are so many beautiful double sided papers, that I couldn't choose on this one, so opted to make a 2 for 1 layout. You can mount this in your album, just take out the center cardstock in your sleeve, so you can see both sides.

Here's HOW: I did these two ten minute layouts!
-Cut word strips off Makai and Kahakai
-choose 2 sentiments from Kahakai paper
On Maki flower side come in towards the center 1 inch down from top and over from the right side. Cut across 7inches and  down 7-1/2 inches. Finish cutting to form a rectangle cut out.
-Flip the cut out piece over; see the idea in this photo:

-Mat slightly bigger.

-I matted twice.
-NOTES: I am a 'PPG' Paper-Pinching-Grinch, so I will cut the center of the mats out too. I have been doing this so long, that it only takes me seconds. To do this, I cut the mats to size. Then come inside each about 1/2 inch and take the centers out. I use them to mat smaller photos, as well as journal pieces, banners, things like that!
-Ink all edges.
-Assemble:
-Note: I only glued 3 sides of sentiment to form pocket, as well as I just tacked the outside edges of the word strip. This will allow me to position the photos once I FIND THEM! This is now ready for your photo or photos

Okay that took about 5 minutes
For the second LO: -Flip page over
-It should look similar to this
-at this point you can mat or not, depending on what you like,
I chose to leave it with the mats from the other side showing

- I  positioned the word strip just at the top of the waterline on the photo.
-Then placed the sentiment to one side, again, just tacking it so I can slide the photo under.
-There you have it 10 minutes! and done or waiting for photos.
I think part of what helped make this so quick was I didn't have to moon over the photo, just make a space for them.
