CRICUT DESIGN SPACE with Wim June 15 - 1pm to 5 pm South Store Scrapendipity Cost : $20 Design Space is the program used with the CRICUT machines   This will be primarily a teaching class on Design Space. I will be covering the fundamentals of design space How to load and cut materials for card making Various tools for Cricut We will discuss, explain and practice the basics. Design Space settings Projects, uploading and preparing the graphics onto Design Space There are many features in design space including Templates, Shapes and Images which can be used in making your projects. I will also cover Print and Cut, Resizing and Combining Cuts onto mats. We will be doing Text and have the Cricut write on our project. There are new features in Design Space including Phrases, Monograms, and Offset which I will explain and show the uses of.   We will be making a Card and Envelope using many of the features in Design Space Cardstock will be supplied You will need to bring : Cricut Machine (with latest version of Design Space installed presently ver 7.9) Please be able to run your cricut machine from your laptop either thru Direct connection (USB) or thru Bluetooth. Cricut – Design Space 101, if you use design space, this class is for you :-) Cost of class: $15 When: December 2nd Where: South Store 6 PM Design Space is the program we use to cut out the SVGs used by a cricut machine. Although the program is very easy to use and learn, it can be confusing. This class will focus on the basics of using Design Space. We will discuss: Uploading, Resizing, Moving, Adding to canvas Shapes, Weld, Attach, Group and Ungroup What will be supplied: Cardstock for making the card and envelope What to bring: Your computer with design space installed Your cricut machine Cricut tools needed will be: a fine blade single scoring wheel or scoring stylus Cricut 12 x 12 mat Glue Not required but useful would be: A Bone folder and scoring board An ink pad (reddish or dark pink and a blending brush WE do Have ONE machine for someone to use that doesn't own their machine, and would like to see if they like them.

Splatter Canvas By Amie!

Karla here today with a project that Amie, my 9 year old, came up with. She has become quite the little crafter! She attended a birthday party this weekend and wanted to add a homemade gift to the gift she purchased for her friend, and this is what she came up with!

She started off with a blank canvas and some Dylusions Ink Sprays. She created the splatter effect by taking the nozzle out of the bottle and tapping until she achieved the desired amount of splat!

How fun are these bright dots of colour?! She then Mod Podged on a diecut initial cut from some ombré cardstock and a cute little grasshopper cut from the Cricut Explore, since her friend loves grasshoppers.

She added some fun sequins to add some shine!

Here she is proudly displaying her project with her sister, Erica. I just love that they love being crafty! And her friend loved her gift!

Scrappy Cat!

Hi there! Karla here today! Over the summer my girls have enjoyed coming in to the Scrapendipity store with me for make 'n takes and classes and are always spoiled by everyone there! We are so lucky to have this wonderful store and all the amazing people there.  There are so many crafters who just don't have this - it really makes me appreciate it.

Back when we used to get together at the owner, Selena's, house, everyone used to get some snuggles in with her cats. Of course, once the store opened she couldn't bring her cats, but she did get a really cute stuffed cat that the girls, especially, love! Well, this cute, fuzzy kitty needed a name, and the girls thought Scrappy Cat would suit her (or him), so we promised to make Selena a cute sign. Amie helped design it and the girls both picked out the colours to match the signature store colours. 

We used Cricut Design Space and several different Cricut and PPPR cut files for the frame, letters, cat and flowers. 

Even though this cute cat comes with a hat and scarf, you can choose to cut her without it! We used part of the scarf for the collar and duplicated the large flower, making it really tiny to fit on the collar. I used some Distress Ink around the edges before layering her together.

Amie saw this Hello Kitty ribbon and thought it would make the perfect collar for Scrappy Cat. She added a pink flower with some Stickles in the center - 'cause a cat's gotta have some bling!

St. Patrick's Day Pocket Letter!

Karla here today! I've had fun this year crafting a bit more for St. Paddy's day, and this pocket letter is something I created to send to a friend!

I used my Cricut Explore to cut lots of St. Patrick's Day images from, which I layered on some pretty background papers. I added stamping, sequins, glitter tape and gems to add some lucky shine! I had two pieces of St. Paddy's paper in my stash, and other than that just combined green patterns with diecuts to create this fun pocket letter.

How cute is this leprechaun from the Simply Charmed Cricut cartridge?! You can see another project I used his 'brother' on here.

The Spring Holiday Cards cartridge worked perfectly to cut into just the right size to fit in my pockets. They would also work for a Project Life page!

I cut the pot of gold from the St. Patrick's Day cartridge. By using a piece of cardstock that already had a black distressed pattern on it I created a neat look for my pot.

On the back I added some diecuts, flowers, stamped images, glitter tape, gems, a note about myself, sequins, lucky stars and doilies! Lots of fun goodies for my pal!

The Best Is Yet To Come Scrapbook Layout!

I cannot believe it is March already! I'm not sure where the time has gone, but I do know I'm ready for Spring! Karla here today to share a layout with you. I've been working on my daughter, Erica's, baby album, so I wanted to continue with that theme! The alphabet background paper is from Doodlebug Designs and I cut out the doily from a piece of Pink Paislee paper. Then, I used some Bella Blvd papers and borders from some cut apart sheets.

After I laid out my basic design arrangement I started to add my embellishments and paper pieces.

I used my Cricut Explore to write the title directly onto my Bella Blvd journaling card and then I coloured it in and added shading.

I journaled right onto my background paper - I always lightly line it with a pencil before writing my journaling and then gently erase my lines.

Gingerbread Christmas Cards!

Karla to here today, and I think it's that time! Christmas is really not that far away, so I want to get my Christmas cards done in the next couple weeks so I can use December to make some crafts and gifts and do lots of holiday activities with the kids.

I was inspired by some cards Angie at My Chic'n Scratch made using one sheet of patterned paper to create four cards and a cute little gift box! You add in your own cardstock for the base of the cards. I created a different focal image on the front of mine, but used her directions to make the bases for my cards and box.

After I covered the card bases with Believe paper from Heidi Swapp I used my Cricut Explore to cut these sweet gingerbread cutouts from the Cricut Gingerbread cartridge. I used coloured pencils to colour in some of the areas of my cookies and then used Glossy Accents to add a shine over top. Some Stickles on my wreath and trees add some more shimmer!

I used the inner cuts from the tree to create a tag cut from kraft cardstock. A couple stripes of this fun Christmas paper and a bit of candy cane twine give it a festive look tied to this quick and easy box.

Project Life With Karla!

Karla back today, and I'm finally feeling a little more settled with school starting back up and getting back into a routine! I found I really didn't have a lot of time over the summer to do Project Life, so I'm happy to get back to it now! I've printed off my pics for each week and now I can get them into my album.

I wanted to share some easy ways to add some extra details to your journaling cards using some paper ephemera! I used some fun die cuts from Maggie Holmes and My Mind's Eye and layered them on my Project Life cards along with some stamps to add some fun accents. I find it easiest to pull out the die cuts I think will work and then I just start layering them on until I find a position I like. Adding a few stamps over top is a nice way to anchor the design.

I used more preprinted die cuts and stamping on the second page. I find clustering the embellishments is usually an easier way to get them to work together.

On my third page I used some fun Cricut cuts from the Create A Critter cartridge and my Explore. I actually used the Write feature to write in my words, then added some Distress Inks and splatters with Dylusions Sprays. I used some Dylusions stamps to add some fun leaves to the dino cards.

On the bottom half of this page I stamped some fun Superhero images and then coloured them in with Prismacolor Markers and layered them on my Project Life Cards. I once heard someone say it made it easier for them to use stamps on their scrapbook pages by thinking of them as stickers. You simply colour in your images and then layer them on as if you were adding a sticker!

As I looked through my album I loved seeing all the journaling I had added and all the fun elements on my pages. Even though I'm a little behind I know this is something I do want to continue to do, and my kids love looking through the pages. That's what makes it all worthwhile!

Superhero Birthday!

Karla here today to share birthday post! My niece recently turned 15 and she is the most adorable and sweetest girl ever! She loves superheroes and I just had to throw her a superhero party with a super card!

I recently picked up the Julie Nutting Prima paper doll stamp - Jill - from Scrapendipity and thought she would be a perfect superhero! I used the Prima skin and hair tones watercolor pencils to colour the body and hair - and let me tell you, these are like butter to colour with!!

I paper pieced her outfit with the Bo bunny Forever Young 6x6 paper pack and used some of the same papers for the background. I hand cut the cape and mask to add to her outfit.

Of course, we had to have some fun superhero decorations!! I used my Cricut Explore with both Cricut and Digi playground cuts to cut out die cut word bubbles and glued them onto banners as well as cutting some lightening bolts for added effect!

I used fun foam and patterns from Cutesy Crafts to make these Superhero masks. My two girls and my niece did their super strong poses.

These die cuts also worked perfectly attached to toothpicks as cupcake picks. My cupcake decorating skills are very limited - but I'm OK with that! Some coloured sprinkles and frosting always make everything look better :)

We also picked up some action figures at Value Village for cheap table decorations. Erica (my 3 year old) had a blast playing with them!

 Everyone kept busy after supper doing Spiderman word searches I printed off from the computer.

We had so much fun with this party - alright, I may have had the most fun ;) and it makes you realize how creative you can be - without spending a lot of money! Thanks so much for joining me today - I hope you have a super week!

My First Pocket Letter!

Karla here today to share the very first Pocket Letter I have ever done, and it was so fun!!

Have you heard of Pocket Letters? Do you remember when ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) were big? Well, I still have all mine stored in a binder in baseball trading card sleeves! These Pocket Letters remind me of them - they are little 2.5" x 3.5" cards, usually following a theme, tucked into these sleeves and then folded into 3 parts so they fit into an A10 size envelope - ready to mail off to a friend! Often people tuck some paper crafting goodies into the back and enclose a letter for the recipient. There are websites, YouTube videos and Facebook pages dedicated to these crafty projects!

I decided to make my letter with a food theme and used papers from the Echo Park Made From Scratch collection as well as a food themed Smash kit and diecuts from a Ruby Rocket Pack. I used some BoBunny background stamps to add stamping and embossed details to my cards before layering my papers on and added some fun foodie washi tape!

On the back of my Pocket Letter I added some goodies my friend could remove and use in her own crafting - some baker's twine, diecuts, stickers, washi paperclips, extra papers, tea and ribbon. I tucked a letter I wrote into one of the pockets with a 'pull' tab and put my paperclips into a fun paper pocket.
