Gorjuss Fox Fall Tags!

Hi there! Karla here today, and I hope all my Canadian friends had a Happy Thanksgiving! We had a lovely meal Sunday with family and of course too much yummy dessert, which was sooo good! I think the best is leftovers though - and turkey soup!! Ok, now that we`re all hungry, I`ll show you some cute Fall tags I created for a Happy Mail swap using some small manilla tags, Distress Inks and the cute foxes from one of the Gorjuss Girls stamp sets. I realized that for some reason I must have changed the colour of the first two photos in the editing :0, but the last photo shows the true colours of the tags! Sorry about that! I started by stamping the foxes onto kraft cardstock and colouring them in with coloured pencils before fussy cutting them out.

I sponged on some Antique Linen and Ripe Persimmon Distress Paints through some stencils and then inked over top with Distress Inks. Because the paints create a resist it looks as if they`re popping through the inks - love this effect!

I layered on some stamps from the same set, used some Vintage Photo Distress Ink and added a few extra stencils and then stamped the stars from the set with Versamark Ink and added Gold Embossing Powder. Lastly I pasted on my cute foxes and added some hemp twine.

Distress Crayon Smudge Technique!

Hi crafty friends! Karla here with a quick technique I recently put on my Instagram - the Distress Crayon Smudge Technique, taught by Tim Holtz in his Creative Chemistry 103 class! It is such a fun and pretty technique that I wanted to share it with you here.

You first start by adding texture paste to a manila tag through a stencil. Here, I used Heidi Swapp and Dylusions stencils.

After the texture paste is dry, you coat the whole tag with Collage Medium and let it dry.

Your last step is applying the Distress Crayons directly over the paste and smudging it in with your fingers, which allows the crayons to blend and highlight the stenciled areas - so pretty!

Ombre Background Using Alcohol Inks!

Karla here today to share a mixed media tag with you! I've been rewatching a lot of the videos lately from the Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 101 and 102 classes from Online Card Classes, and I came across this neat technique using alcohol inks. I love using alcohol inks, but they're one of those things that I forget about using all the time!

I started with a piece of glossy cardstock and used the felt pads to layer on three different colours of alcohol inks from light to dark, swiping across my tag and slightly overlapping each colour to blend it all together. I took a metal heart piece from my stash and covered it with several colours of alcohol inks, including the gold mixative, with a felt pad. I filled in the heart in the centre with Glossy Accents and sprinkled glitter on in three coordinating colours.

I stamped with Archival black ink over the alcohol inked background, using several stamps at different angles. A bit of translucent embossing paste with a Tim Holtz stencil and some clear glitter on top gives it some pretty texture.

I added some blue ribbon and a cute paperclip along with some pretty yarn and ribbons at the top of my tag and then added a friendship pin. Do you remember these?! I made them when I was a kid, and just thought the other day this would be a fun thing for my girls to do. 

Erica loves making these cute little pins! All you need are safety pins and beads- which you probably have in your stash! 

A few sequins attached with Glossy Accents and my pretty tag was good to go!

Double Distress Tag!

Hi crafty friends! Karla here today to share a tag I made using some fun Distress Techniques.

I'm retaking the Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry 101 class from Online Card Classes - and loving the review! This was the perfect opportunity to use some of the fun techniques Tim is so awesome at teaching. Here's the first side of my tag:

I started off by heat embossing with Versamark and clear embossing powder using a woodgrain stamp. Then, I used Distress Inks in Candied Apple, Blueprint Sketch, and Wilted Violet to blend my background, which created a neat effect where the embossing powder resisted. I used some Archival Ink to stamp on some stamps and added some woodgrain washi tape.

I added a couple more stamps and some hearts which I cut with my Cricut, embossed with my Cuttlebug, sponged Distress Ink on and stamped a script stamp on. The Ground Espresso Distress Ink was great to sponge around the outside edges of my hearts and tag.

 Here's a couple close ups of the tag. I framed a butterfly with a wood piece and added some sequins.

Now, for the second side! I coloured the seam binding ribbon with Distress Inks misted with water. I just love this effect.

Since the dragonflies were already stamped with Distress Paint and dry, I smooshed Lucky Clover and Carved Pumpkin Distress Inks on my craft mat and added some water before laying the tag in it and drying several times in between to add some colour. Then I used some Archival Ink to add some stamped images.

I added a little more colour around the edges with Ground Espresso Distress Ink and painted the butterflies using the Izink inks - love these! I even used the paint brush to flick on some extra paint and then misted with the Tim Holtz Mica Spray - so pretty!

Here, you can see where I've glued on some pearls and beads to accent the dragonflies and butterflies. You can also see the pretty shimmer from that Mica spray.

DIY Scrapbook Embellishment Tags!

Hi Friends! Karla here today. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! My favourite thing was making these cute DIY tags :) I've been watching lots of YouTube videos on making your own scrapbook embellishments lately and thought I'd give it a try.

I pulled out a sheet of BoBunny Sweet Life paper from a 6x6" paper pad and cut it into 6 tags, each measuring 2x3". I rounded the tops of the corners with my We R Memory Keepers corner punch and sponged Victorian Velvet Distress Ink on the edge. I used a circle punch to punch out a circle of coordinating paper and, after gluing it to the top of my tag, hole punched through both layers so that it looked like I had reinforced the tag hole. I have lots of little scraps of paper, especially longer border strips that I was able to cut into banners and layer on my tags.

My circle punches worked to punch little pieces of leftover papers from my 6x6" pads and, together with some fun rectangles cut from an older Simple Stories pad, as well as some Tim Holtz Chitchat stickers, I was able to create some pretty tags and use up supplies at the same time!

I tied some embroidery floss through my tag and added some homemade 'enamel dots' that I made with a sparkly silver gluestick and my hot glue gun. The Ranger craft sheet is excellent for making these on!

Art Alchemy Painted Tag!

Karla here today, and I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day on Sunday! Any day spent with my girls is a blessing, and of course my husband and girls spoiled me. I even had time to work on this pretty tag! Recently my friend, Laura, let me borrow her Art Alchemy Metallique Acrylic Paints by Finnabair! Good friend, hey! Well, I love them.... I tried them on chipboard, metal and thought I'd give them a swipe on this manilla tag.

They have such a lovely metal sheen, and wonderful coverage! After layering on my paint I used Distress Inks to sponge on some colour on the remaining unpainted areas of the tag. I love how the paints just pop and look like they're actually added on top of the Distress Inks! After that I stamped an image with Ranger Archival Black Ink.

Next, I used a Dina Wakley stencil to add some Texture Paste to my project and added one of the metal pieces I painted with those fun Finnabair Paints. I heated it with a heat gun, so it actually bubbled a bit, and I think if I'd let it air dry it would have been smoother. But hey, sometimes a girl just can't wait, right?! I cut a Tim Holtz Sticker from the Chit Chat book in half and added it behind my metal frame.

 Here's a look at my finished tag - 

The little wooden butterfly and dragonfly easily coloured up with Distress Markers and the sequins add an extra bit of shimmer and shine around the page.

You can see how nicely the chipboard with the heart cutout covered using the Art Alchemy paints. This was just one coat! I layered on a left over Heartfelt Creations flower from Holly's Make 'n Take last week, adding some Stickles, and tied on my seam binding ribbon that I coloured with Distress Stains.

Be Original Art Foamies Tag!

Good morning! Karla here today, and I hope you are all having a great week so far. Soccer started for my 4 year old Monday so it's been busy times getting all that ready, but I did manage to sneak in a quick tag to share with you all! A while ago I borrowed some pretty Art Foamies stamps from my friend, Laura, and I had so much fun creating some awesome backgrounds. If you've never heard of Art Foamies stamps before you can check out this video here. I stamped this pretty dragonfly onto a manilla tag and stuck it in my drawer until just the right time! Since I already had my background stamped, I decided to use my Distress Inks to sponge on a bit of colour and added some brown ink around the edges.

I used some blue and green Distress Inks to colour my seam binding ribbon before tying it onto my tag. A bit of Ground Espresso brown Distress Ink finished the edges of my chipboard flower sticker and coloured the ribbon along the bottom of the tag. That's one reason I love buying white trims and ribbon - I get to colour coordinate them with my project!

This 'be original' stamp is from the Crazy Talk stamp set that coordinates with the Crazy Birds stamps. I used an Archival black ink to stamp over my Distress Inked background. You can see a bit of the Crazing Collage Medium from Tim Holtz that I brushed over the tag to create a subtle texture. A few light green pearls finished off my project.

'On The Go' Prima Paper Doll Tag!

Hi there! Karla here today to share this sweet tag I made over the summer! We were actually away on holidays, and I wanted to bring a small kit of craft supplies to work on if I had time. I brought along a couple 6x6 pads of patterned paper, some script background paper to stamp my dolls on, and some Prima Paper Doll stamps by Julie Nutting, along with a few pens, ink, Prismacolor markers, glue and some bakers twine. I paper pieced this sweet girl's clothing and hairband from a new Maggie Holmes paper pad I brought. I stashed all my supplies in a 12x12 Iris tote.

I cut the buttons from some Jillibean Soup patterned paper and layered them on my tag, and I even snagged a couple pony beads from my kids' stash to use on my bow. A glittery gel pen added some shine to my project for added detail.

I hand cut pretty flowers from the Maggie Holmes pad and layered on a banner with a handwritten quote, adding that same shimmery gel pen to highlight the words.

I loved having a few supplies with me, perfect for when we wanted to just take a break from activities. I love making up small kits to take along, and I think it makes me even more creative when I know I have a limited amount of supplies to work with! My girls also had fun stamping and colouring in some paper dolls to play with :)

Roastin' Marshmallows!

Karla back today, showcasing this sweet layout using the Julie Nutting Prima Paper Doll, Marisol. She comes with a simple little dress/undergarment on so that you can dress her up. I used the hat from the Jill doll and created her shorts and T-shirt, first using tracing paper over the doll's body so I could see the outline, and then cutting out the outfit and tracing around it onto patterned paper. I drew her flip flops on and coloured them in with Distress Markers.

The papers I used are from a BoBunny collection - the Roastin' Marshmallows title is actually a journaling card from a cut-apart sheet - and I love how the marshmallows are printed directly onto this 12x12 page! 

I layered Marisol on a tag cut from more camping themed paper and added more papers on top from the cut apart sheet. I added some blue and pinks in with some bakers twine to match my cardstock and the dolls hat and shoes.

I recently got these adorable campers from a CTMH order and decided they'd be the perfect fit for this page - they gave it a 'Glamping' feel - because if you use a Julie Nutting doll it definitely adds some glamour to your project! I stamped them on watercolour paper and used Distress and Tombow Markers to watercolour them in before placing them on my page.
