Fun Friday with Pam

Fall again and the kids are heading back to school!
Enjoy your last big long weekend. To help you get organized for the first day, here is a 'PINTEREST INSPIRED' list of ideas for first day of school 'scrap worthy' pictures I wish I would have had when mine were still young enough to be poseable LOL
Don't stress if you don't get it the first day. We are scrapbookers, we can fudge the dates and embellish with other photos as needed.
1.} Getting on the bus, walking to the bus, from the window of course!
2.}Holding and framing their face, fancy frame, plain frame, make sure to note what is in the background to make this one effective and uncluttered
3.}Love the chalkboard sayings, you could have a lot of fun with this one. Name, age, date, grade, school, what they want to be when they grow up in their own words?
4.}This would be great to do if you were a teacher. Or every year with your kids or grandkids. Even an interview on paper is a great journal starter to have.
5.}Buy it big and photograph them EVERY YEAR from the beginning!
6.} Chalk on the concrete, classic! I would also try to remember to photograph them as they look when they come home after their first day. LOL not the carefully coifed tidy little people we send out.
7.} For the seniors, holding a kindergarten photo!
8.}LOVE  this idea
9.} Choose a quiet road. {not to be tried with young children}
10.} The whole family!

That's a start! What is your favourite photo you have taken or will try to take? CHARGE YOUR CAMERA BATTERY TODAY

Mixed Media Bookmark!

Happy Tuesday! Hope you're week has started off wonderfully - and if not, I hope it gets better from here on in ;)

Recently I joined a swap where a group of ladies made papercrafted items and swapped them. I made these mixed media bookmarks for my project!

I started off with a piece of cardstock that came in the size of a bookmark, but you could simply cut the size you'd like. Then, I Mod Podged on a pattern piece - you can find old patterns at most second hand stores and they're great for this! I used Dylusions Spray Mists to spray on a yellow and pink background, which combined to create the orange in the middle - so cool!

I used some stitching stamps and black ink to stamp directly on my background and then stamped and heat embossed the flower and dressform images. Of course I had to use some Distress Sprays to spritz my seam binding ribbon and then put it through a hole I punched with my Crop-O-Dile and added an eyelet to. On the back I stamped a fun stamp with some Kaleidoscope Ink to create a graduated green image and signed the bottom.

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope this inspires you to create a fun bookmark for your own books or as a gift for someone :)

Shrinky Dink Fun Friday with Pam

I don't make up the names, I just play with the product LOL.
I thought it was time to dig out the shrinky dink mylar. If you have never played with this stuff, it is always a good time. Here is how its done.
First assemble your supplies:
-Shrinky Dink Plastic
-StayzOn ink black or dark color
-3 or 4 inch stamp
-Copic or permanent markers
- tweezers or needle nose type plier
NOTE: you will want to work on a Heat proof Craft mat
as well as use a high temp heat gun.
1.} Choose a stamp you want to use that will leave you with some spaces to color. I used this butterfly fairy. Pick a stamp at least 3 or 4 times larger than you want it to turn out.
2.} Stamp your image onto the shrink dink plastic using StazOn ink {you want a solvent ink, not a water activated ink} Use your Mylar wisely by positioning your stamp in the corner and working over, you can also cut it with any regular cutting machine and die.
3.} Carefully cut around your image, try to keep your fingers off the ink, it is permanent, but can still move or smear a bit. If you are using a stamp and die set, cut first and stamp second.
4.} PUNCH A HOLE OR TWO FOR HANGING this is a key step, do not skip this step
5.} Color your image
Note: I colored the lightest detail color using Copic markers on the inked side. Then flip it over to cover large area on he back of the piece. This way you do not have to worry about removing your stamped image. I also used black to outline the cut edge of the shape.
Now place on heat proof surface, position your pliers so they are secured in the center of your punched holes. Holding it securely down, hit it with the high temp on your heat gun. Don't panic when it starts to curl and move, keep the heat on it moving it around. It will lay down as it shrinks.
This is the after along side the before
I am building charms for a swap, so made a few in different colors. The copic colors were lighter shades. They darken up as the plastic shrinks.
Have fun!! Pop by My Blog for a visit anytime.
Pinterest Shrinky Fun Idea
The link to this photo is broken, however with some experimenting I am sure you could figure it out. Make sure you cut your length of shrink at least 4 times longer than you want it to be when its done shrinking.
I do not own the rights to this idea, I am just sharing it
and thank the original creator for this tutorial.
